Portville Hall of Fame
Maxine E. Slocum was hired as a kindergarten teacher at PCS in 1956 and
retired in 1986. She brought many talents to her classroom including her love
of piano music and art. She was a certified Foster Parent of Cattaraugus
County and Hostess for the Miss New York State Beauty Pageant for many
years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olean and the Order
of the Eastern Star. Maxine lived a full life from 1924 to 2001, residing in
Portville for 44 of those years.
