Portville Hall of Fame

Jeff Nix grew up on Deer Creek Road, in Portville, but now splits his time
between homes in Indiana and New York City.  He had a highly successful
academic and athletic career while at Portville Central School. The name “Jeff
Nix” and basketball are synonymous not only in Portville, but in New York
City, as well.

Jeff graduated Portville Central School in 1976 and then earned a bachelor’
s degree from Canisius College, where he was a member of the basketball
team.  After a career-ending knee injury, he went on to serve as an assistant
coach at Canisius from 1979 through 1981.  In 1981, he took a position as
assistant basketball coach at St. Francis College in Loretto, Pennsylvania,
where he coached until 1984.  He then moved on to being an assistant coach at
Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland, for a year, and Xavier University in
Cincinnati, Ohio, for 2 years after that.  In 1987, he was offered the prestigious
position of assistant coach to “Digger” Phelps and John MacLeod at Notre
Dame.  He remained as assistant coach there for 5 years.  Finally, in 1992, Jeff
took a position as assistant coach/advance scout to Coach Pat Riley and the
New York Knickerbockers!  In 1994, he became assistant coach to Don
Nelson and Jeff VanGundy as well.  In 1994, Jeff also married his wife,
Margie.  Currently, Jeff is the Assistant General Manager of the New York
Knicks and works as an assistant to the President and General Manager, Scott
Layden.

Jeff Nix has helped put Portville “on the map,” and he is an example of
what lots of hard work and dedication will get you in life!
