Portville Hall of Fame
Rupert A. Chaffee graduated from Portville in 1931. After college, he
worked at Clark Brothers (Dresser Rand), until he retired in 1979. He took a
leave of absence from 1942-1947 and served as an officer in the Army Air-
Corp in the Pacific Theatre. Rupert joined the Portville Volunteer Fire
Department in 1938, and served on the Board of Fire Commissioners for 43
years. He also served as a village trustee and as Vice President of the Chestnut
Hill Cemetery Association. Throughout the years, “Rupe” has been a
respected friend to many in our area.
