Portville Hall of Fame
Terri Clouston, daughter of Rex and Marge Clouston, was born in Marion,
Indiana, in 1959. Rex Clouston was a teacher whose profession led him and his
family to Arcade, NY. As a result of that move, Terri is a graduate of Pioneer
Central School, Class of 1977.

While in high school, Terri was involved in many activities.  She was a
scorekeeper and statistician for the Track & Field team, president of the
Student Action Committee, and was a leading member of the Purposeful Life
Club.  Almost all of her activities revolved around music and she was a
member of the High School Chorus and the Madrigal Singers.

After high school, Terri attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
There she discovered a young man who could give her a ride home to the
Arcade area on various college breaks.  That is how she met Mike Batt from
Portville and “the rest is history”.

Mike and Terri were married on May 23, 1981, in Yorkshire, NY. They settled
down to live on Sherry Hollow Road in Portville, taking the reins from Mike’s
parents to care for their farm.

In her early years, Terri had several jobs including JCPenney in Florida and
Western NY. She traveled overseas with a choral group and even performed on
television in Japan. She worked as a Counselor at the Circle C Ranch in
Delevan, taught at the Smethport Academy, and worked as a Home Health
Care provider. As her family grew, she became a very busy farmer’s wife.
Terri and Mike have four children; Kevin, twins Heather and Hope, and
Courtney.

As her children became more independent, she found time to expand her life
and has continued working as a Home Health Care worker. Most of all, she has
devoted much of her time to the Portville Community.

Over the past 15 years, she has volunteered or served in the following
organizations:
Curator for the Portville Historical and Preservation Society
Trustee for the Portville Historical and Preservation Society
Secretary of the board of the Portville Free Library
Past board member of the Town of Portville
Active member of the Friends of the Library

Those who know her best speak of her selfless nature, her caring attitude
toward those in need, her willingness to help out wherever she can, and her
love of God. Being a partner in a family farm enterprise with kids grown up
and moved on is a full life, but added to that is a busy life in community service.
